This week on the podcast, we review Mad Max: Fury Road and Pitch Perfect 2. Now that I think about it, we never tried to determine which movie is better. Maybe it’s obvious.

Review: ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’

I’m still processing Mad Max: Fury Road. I’m still wrapping my head around the visuals, the world-building, the bold color palette, and what everyone else in the world is talking about right now: the action.

Let’s just get this out of the way. I’ve never seen any of the previous Mad Max” films (just parts of Road Warrior). I went into Fury Road blind, though that will be remedied very soon.

Is ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ About to Become The Best Movie of 2015?

I knew something was up when film reviewer Chris Stuckmann awarded the fourth Mad Max movie an “A+.” And when The Dissolve gave its second ever 5 star rating to the Tom Hardy/Charlize Theron film.

Now the film is even getting praise from traditional outlets. AP is calling it a “poetic masterpiece.” Chicago Tribune claims it makes Furious 7 look like Curious George. The George Miller movie has a stunning 99% on Rotten Tomatoes at this time. I don’t think I’ve heard of this much praise about a fourth sequel since Rocky IV, not that I was even alive back then.

Anyone Else Getting Sick of Deadpool?

I forget where I read it first (it was probably a Tweet), but yes, Deadpool (Fox’s apology movie for the popular anti-hero being butchered in X-Men Origins: Wolverine) will be rated “R.”

I’m glad, but the way this news was delivered via a crass video and the subsequent Ryan Reynolds Tweet just all seem a bit…much to me. I’m not complaining because Fox is literally giving the fans everything they want. And I really want to sit down and watch a good movie about Deadpool (especially with the Zombieland writers behind it).

I just sort of wish I wasn’t getting sick of it so early. As much as I love the comics, Deadpool is a character I can only handle in small doses. Yes, he’s funny and unpredictable, but that inane wackiness gets old after a while. For the same reason Zombieland doesn’t provide a complete escape from truth and believability (though it goes pretty far), I don’t want to be immersed out of Deadpool because it’s so scared of disappointing fans.

But that’s just me.

‘Deadpool’ Will Start Shooting This Week

From Jay Jason at Comicbook.com:

…filming is set to begin this week on Deadpool for Morena (Baccarin) and star Ryan Reynolds. The latter recently took part in an official photoshoot for the film. Seems like we’ll get an official look at him as the Merc With A Mouth some point soon.

I’m still pleasantly surprised that Inara—er—Morena Baccarin will be in this. I’ve assumed up to this point that she will be playing Domino (how could she not?), even though the character never appears in the leaked script according to what I’ve been told by people brave enough to read it. Another great guess is that she will play Copycat.

As for Reynolds, he’s already been hyping this latest movie, calling it “great for Green Lantern haters” in passing. The movie doesn’t come out for another 11 months, but it’s already more interesting than half of what Marvel is working on this year (so, Ant-Man, basically).

Here’s to hoping something Deadpool-related happens at Comic-Con.

Hey conspirers! This week on the podcast, we talk Cinderella, the latest Disney fairy tale movie to grace the big screen. Critics have been pretty kind to the film, but does it stand out amidst the ranks of Red Riding Hood, Jack the Giant Slayer, Snow White and the Huntsman, Alice and Wonderland, last year’s Maleficent…OK, maybe the competition isn’t so stiff.

On TWIL (this week I learned), we share some of our favorite YouTube channels for mocking our favorite movies, as well as the recent news on Popeye. Stick around for the Netflix Recommendation of the Week, as well as new Movie Releases for this coming weekend.

Our Song of the Week is “Our Own House” by Misterwives (yes, they do a song besides “Reflections” and I argue it’s better).

Enjoy the show, and don’t forget to rate and subscribe us on iTunes if you haven’t already! We always appreciate your feedback.

Question of the Week: What is your favorite live-action fairy tale movie?

With high school comedy The DUFF releasing this weekend, the Now Conspiring podcast team thought it would be useful to discuss how the whimsical teen comedies we love from the 80s and 90s basically went instinct as we entered the early 2000s.

There’s a conspiracy afoot.

We have a special guest this week! Luis Rodriguez joined us this week to discuss his experience at the Hot Tub Time Machine 2 world premiere, and of course a review. We also review The DUFF and chat about McFarland USA briefly.

Later in the show, we discuss our personal picks for the Oscars, including a lengthy discussion about Aquaman’s new look as released this week for the Justice League movies. Also, what is the hidden meaning behind “Unite the Seven?” Theories!

Stick around for our Netflix Recommendation of the Week, as well as our preview of the new movies coming out this weekend that you should check out.

That song you hear during the top of the show is Passion Pit’s latest single, “Lifted Up (1985).” Their new album, Kindred, comes out April 21st.

Enjoy the show, and don’t forget to rate and subscribe to the show on iTunes if you like us alright!
