First Trailer For ‘Minions’ Shows A World Before Gru.

Honestly, I’ve never been the biggest fan of the Despicable Me franchise. I fell asleep during the sequel.

So when Illumination announced that there would be a standalone movie focusing only on the minions (AKA everyone’s Halloween costume last year), I rolled my eyes like many other people.

Pixar’s Rules For Storytelling #1: Finding Ideas

You may recall Bloop Animation as the group who put together the video for my post, The Pixar Theory. Recently, they’ve been delving even deeper into what makes Pixar, well, Pixar with a new series about storytelling. The video is below, along with a transcribed version.

(The following is a transcript of a video written by Dean Movshovitz and based on The 22 rules of storytelling by Emma Coats):

Choosing an idea is all about finding the essence of your story. Most good stories revolve around watching a character struggle outside of their comfort zone.

We love watching characters have their polar opposites thrown at them.

A rat who wants to be a chef? Think about that idea for a moment. What could be worse for a rat than to have a passion for cooking? To dream to be a chef in a gourmet French restaurant?

Like most storytelling rules, this one is as old as time.

‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ Wraps Filming

star wars episode vii

Alex Ritman | THR:

The Star Wars: Episode VII team descended upon London’s Science Museum en masse Saturday night for a huge celebration many have speculated could be the film’s wrap party.

J.J. AbramsMark HamillHarrison FordCarrie FisherDaisy RidleyAndy Serkis and John Boyega were all in attendance, with Boyega posting several images and videos onto Instagram of him with his co-stars. One showed him dancing to Stevie Wonder‘s Superstition with Ridley, while another saw him next to R2-D2, captioned “home time buddy.” Regular Abrams collaborator Simon Pegg was also at the event, leading to further rumors that the actor-director could have landed himself a part in the film.

This movie is going to be huge. Like Titanic huge.

Not sure how I feel about Simon Pegg’s possible involvement, though. If that’s the case, it’s certainly a sign of J.J. Abrams’ growing talent harem.

Why Inception Is One of the Best Movies of Our Generation

What You Missed About Inception:

For me, a truly great film isn’t really like a masterpiece. A masterpiece, after all, is more about critical praise and the apex of one’s career. Inception is great in a different way. It’s just smart. It didn’t receive universal, critical praise (though it got some) because it completely went over the heads of almost everyone.

For all of you who think you “get” the movie, I sincerely doubt that more than a handful actually caught everything that was going on in the story.

Here’s a test to see if you did: do you think the ending was a cliffhanger? Because if you did, you are dead wrong.

With Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar coming out this week, I thought it would be fun to revisit one of the first fan theories I ever wrote. I wrote this piece about Inception and it’s myriad secrets back in 2013, and I’m still finding more reasons for why it’s one of the best films, period. And why most people don’t seem to fully grasp how important it was.

About | Movieo:

This is a place for discovering movies. Made by a couple of friends for fun – as a side project.

We love movies but finding new ones is usually a hassle. We searched for a nicely designed and simple interface for movie browsing but we didn’t find one. So we made one ourselves.

There’s no ads, no annoying popups, no catch – it’s free. We’ll keep improving it as time passes. For now we’d appreciate your feedback. Criticism and praise are both welcome.

This website is seriously worth your time. At its base level, it offers you a chance to stream excellent movie trailers without popups and ads by hosting from a YouTube channel.

But it also features a search function that lets you find new movies that you’ll like, complete with review scores that hover with the description. Fun idea.

Early Review For ‘Interstellar,’ Christopher Nolan’s Next Big Movie.

Interstellar review

Evan Lee | Interstellar Has Oscar Written All Over it:

People are going to like this movie the first time they watch it, but they won’t fully love it until a second viewing. Like Inception, it’s going to take some people a second time to warm up to this movie due to all the twists and turns.

I know it’s saying a lot, but this is – without a doubt – Christopher Nolan’s best film. If you’re looking for great performances, a magnificent score, mind-blowing special effects, plus sound and cinematography to match, then look no further because Interstellar has arrived on planet Earth.

This is a fun write-up by one of my good friends, Evan Lee, who had the opportunity to catch Interstellar at the world premier in LA. I highly recommend reading his review in its entirety, as he did a great job of not spoiling anything for the truly curious.

Interstellar releases this weekend, and based on early demand and ticket sales, I suggest you plan ahead and reserve your seat.

Tom Hiddleston Will Reprise ‘Loki’ In At Least Four More Marvel Movies

Tom Hiddleston Marvel

Gary Collinson | Flickering Myth

We already knew that Tom Hiddleston’s Loki would be back for Thor 3, given the cliffhanger ending to Thor: The Dark World, and it seems the God of Mischief will also have a role to play in the two-part Avengers: Infinity War, Digital Spy is reporting.

Loki’s inclusion in Infinity War isn’t too surprising given that he has one of the Infinity Stones that the Mad Titan Thanos will need to acquire for the Infinity Gauntlet, and of course the two villains have unfinished business stemming from The Avengers.

A later update revealed that Loki will also be in Avengers: Age of Ultron, though for only a scene or two. So that makes four more MCU films you can expect to see Tom Hiddleston in.

You can’t knock Marvel for milking the character who has become such an unlikely fan-favorite among moviegoers, and this news certainly confirms a fitting arc and possibly conclusion for the God of Mischief.
