New Trailer For ‘The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out Of Water’

I can’t remember the last time I was excited about anything related to one of my favorite cartoons as a kid. Actually yes I can. Ahem

“Spongebob” became a cultural icon in the early 2000s for a reason. The combination of fluid animation, hilarious writing, and unforgettable characters accompanied by incredible voice talent cemented the show as a classic.

But a lot of people don’t realize that the (pelvic) thrust of the show’s success had a lot to do with the man who created it: Stephen Hillenburg. The man was fittingly a marine biologist before conceptualizing the show in 1999, and he’s responsible for much of the show’s early success.

Sadly, and for reasons we won’t get into, he departed from the show creatively after the release of the first Spongebob movie in 2005.

After that, the show took a dip in quality due to his absence (though that is ultimately subjective). Despite this, the show’s laurels allowed it to finish out the decade with increasingly good episodes as the team adapted to a new phase for the show.

This movie signals, I think, a return to form for the people who still make the show. Yes, it caters to an ever-younger audience by trading edgier content for cheap laughs. But this trailer shows that the spirit of this character and his oceanic pals is able to find new ways to keep older audiences like me watching.

Also, the animation is terrific. Bring on the new Spongebob movie, Nickelodeon.

How Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Became a Movie Star

In 2013 his movies made some $1.3 billion worldwide—more than any other actor’s movies that year, period. (It helped that he was in four.) Johnson has a tendency to pick up existing franchises and make them his. The second G.I. Joe film took in $376 million worldwide; the first, without Johnson, made $74 million less. 

Journey 2 grossed almost $100 million more than its predecessor. In the Fast and Furious franchise, Fast Five, which introduced his character, Hobbs, earned nearly twice what the previous movie made.

Easily the best analysis I’ve ever read on one of the world’s most interesting actors, who went from poverty to pro wrestling, and then to Hollywood. One of the best cases for Johnson’s rise to success is how he promotes his own movies on social media, which in turn convinces studios that he’s a solid hire (and proven talent).

This is a piece that is definitely worth your time, no matter what you already think about Dwayne Johnson.

The Correct Order For Watching the Marvel Movies

In case you want to do some binge watching leading up to the May release of Age of Ultron.

Now if you want to be incredibly inclusive and stretch out beyond the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), you could always start with Howard the Duck and then blaze through the Blade, X-Men, Spider-Man, Punisher, Daredevil, and Fantastic Four movies. Not that you would want to.

I don’t see how bringing back Arnold “dazzles” anyone. Especially since it’s something we have seen before. Of course, they sort of give away who the new villain is in this spoilery article.

I’m also surprised to see that Emilia Clarke (the Mother of Dragons, herself) is anywhere near this project. The storyboards alone point to this movie being a mess.

I could be wrong, but I have a feeling that Terminator: Genisys will be a lot like its new title. New, but unnecessary.

 

This Captain America Theory Pretty Much Spoils The Entire Franchise.

This theory could pretty much spell out what Marvel has been planning for the Avengers franchise, including not one, but two huge twists surrounding Captain America and his band of Marvel misfits. You’ve been warned.

I received an email from a fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe fan who made the startling claim that Captain America will perish in the upcoming 2018 film, Avengers 3.

Obviously, that’s pretty far off, and I was skeptical at first. But the theory makes incredible sense. It turns out that a Redditor started this idea pretty recently, and a lot of fans have ran with it. Here’s the general concept:

Steve Rogers/Captain America was born on July 4, 1918 according to Captain America: The First Avenger. That would make him 100 years old exactly by the time we get to Avengers 3, which will take place in 2018.

This is because the MCU tends to align its movies with the years they come out in. Iron Man took place in their version of 2008. Avengers took place a few years later in 2012.

Now to follow along with this theory, you have to know that it’s been recently implied by Marvel that Captain America 3 will be the start of popular comic storyline, Civil War, in which Tony Stark and Steve Rogers will create warring factions against each other.

This is because RDJ will actually be in the third sequel for Captain America.

Cap 3 is planned to come out in 2016, which means the “Civil War” would last for at least two years before Avengers 3 would come out in 2018. The idea is that Thanos will attack Earth in Avengers 3 (forcing the Marvel heroes to settle their differences and unite), and Captain America will sacrifice himself for everyone and die around his 100th birthday.

Thus ending the Civil War.

This aligns with the fact that Marvel needs a new actor to replace Chris Evans, who won’t be doing anymore Captain America movies after this.

In comes Sebastian Stan (AKA Bucky Barnes AKA The Winter Soldier) who has agreed to doing 9 films with Marvel.

And in the comics, Bucky Barnes takes up the Captain America mantle himself.

That leads us to Phase IV.

Which would include…? Well Iron Man will be devastated, obviously, but does that mean RDJ will still be kicking around? Or will this Earth-shattering Avengers trilogy pave the way for a new team of heroes and a new franchise of Marvel films?

We’ll see in about 4 years.
