Everyone has pets, and now pretty much everyone also has Pokémon. In this week’s episode of Now Conspiring, we review The Secret Life of Pets and have a lengthy discussion about the Nintendo smartphone game that has resulted in some real life Team Rocket incidents.

Comic-Con 2015 Roundup (Podcast)

comic-con

This week on the Now Conspiring podcast, I’m joined by Adonis Gonzalez, Kayla Savage, and Maria Garcia as we cover the best news and announcements coming out of this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego.

Unfortunately, we recorded the podcast just before the trailers for Batman v SupermanDeadpool, and Suicide Squad, so we don’t cover any of those big moments. Still, we cover a ton of relevant news for you guys to dig your teeth into. It’s basically like you’re really there. Or your ears, at least.

Pixar’s ‘Sanjay’s Super Team’ Is Charming Everyone at Comic-Con

Say what you will about Pixar releasing two original films in one year, but you can’t deny how great it is that they’re also giving us two original shorts on top of those films.

Lava (the short attached to Inside Out) certainly struck a chord among audiences, but it’s looking like Sanjay’s Super Team will have an even stronger effect. The short film premiered back in June, but Pixar has given lucky Comic-Con attendees an early screening, and the response is excellent so far.

‘Iron Giant’ Is Being Rereleased With Two New Scenes

Brad Bird — the director of the 1999 animated cult classic, The Iron Giant — announced today via Twitter that the aforementioned film will be rereleased as “The Signature Edition” in select screenings between September and October of this year.

The kicker? The film is now 10 minutes longer with never-before-seen material. It’s essentially a director’s cut with two new scenes.

‘Deadpool’ Will Start Shooting This Week

From Jay Jason at Comicbook.com:

…filming is set to begin this week on Deadpool for Morena (Baccarin) and star Ryan Reynolds. The latter recently took part in an official photoshoot for the film. Seems like we’ll get an official look at him as the Merc With A Mouth some point soon.

I’m still pleasantly surprised that Inara—er—Morena Baccarin will be in this. I’ve assumed up to this point that she will be playing Domino (how could she not?), even though the character never appears in the leaked script according to what I’ve been told by people brave enough to read it. Another great guess is that she will play Copycat.

As for Reynolds, he’s already been hyping this latest movie, calling it “great for Green Lantern haters” in passing. The movie doesn’t come out for another 11 months, but it’s already more interesting than half of what Marvel is working on this year (so, Ant-Man, basically).

Here’s to hoping something Deadpool-related happens at Comic-Con.
