The Pixar Theory Timeline

Pixar Theory TimelineSince the initial release of The Pixar Theory, there have been countless changes and updates to the Pixar Theory timeline. Since it can get a little complicated (and nutty), I put together a new and improved outline that follows the book and includes all of the recent and upcoming Pixar movies. Enjoy!

Keep in mind that this is not the full theory. There’s plenty I don’t go over here and there are many missing connections between movies I don’t bring up, so if you want the full Pixar Theory experience with connections, Easter eggs, and explanations for what’s going on, click here to check out the book.

Otherwise, enjoy this full look at the Pixar Theory Timeline, starting with The Good Dinosaur.

Pixar Theory Timeline

BEGIN PART 2

And that’s the Pixar Theory timeline. In a nutshell. A very very very long nutshell. Hope you enjoyed reading it as much I did laying it out, and if you have any questions, confusions, or frustrations, feel free to hit me up in the comments or dig into the full book, which does a lot more to explain what in the world is going on in this timeline.

  1. comes ‘the good dinosaur’first now?

  2. Woah 65 Million years ago

  3. So, does that mean you and MatPat will begin a Pixar Theory battle to see whose Pixar Theory is better? This will be so exciting! I hope MatPat is reading this right now and starting to create his own Pixar Theory! This will be fun!

    • I know right? He already started with that whole Cars are not Cars thing. I wonder how far hell go.

  4. Wasn’t the people boarding the space craft and the last Wall e unit being rescued like 4 years apart?

    • All humans in the Wall-E are cannibalist watch film theory’s theory about that

      • That theory doesn’t actually make sense. The movie explains on its own that the Axiom has the technology to convert solar power into artificial energy, enough to sustain the lives of the entire crew in an infinite loop with “artificially flavored food.” Suggesting they’re cannibals is just silly reaching without any evidence to back it up.

        • Did u watch the theory about it tho it could be all a lie

        • YYes that would be possible but watch the video with the math and time that part is harder to explain away

  5. I like the new timeline 🙂 Very well put together. Nice job.

  6. Nice timeline, I love the layout. I have one nitpick though. Toy Story 3 can’t take place in 2007. On Andy’s bulletin board, there are concert tickets dated 2009. This would mean that, if the movie takes place 11 years after Toy Story 2, Toy Story 2 would take place at its release year and Toy Story would be in 1998. Up would take place somewhere in the 2010’s.

  7. What about Pixar’s Zootopia

    • Zootopia isn’t a pixar film

  8. That boo part… was mind blowing

  9. One small point: the animators said that little girl in Toy Story 3 wasn’t Boo. Otherwise, well put together.

    • I consider it headcanon because the animators still chose to make her so similar to Boo. She even reenacts a scene from Monsters Inc. and says “Boo.” Not a dealbreaker for me, but I still love the idea that it’s her, there.

  10. Awsome thery sorry if its wrong spelling

  11. this theory is amazing, and well put together. good job

  12. yeah you got it wrong mat pat proved that cars are the evolved form of the insects in bugs life
    so please fix the timeline

    • That was Matpat’s timeline. This is Jon’s. Two different scenarios.

    • MatPat only proved that he’s really good at plagiarizing Super Carlin Bros. The timeline is correct as is.

      • No need to diss MatPat bud, although I love this theory insulting him is not the right way to go. Just accept his opinion for god sakes, he’s already mentioned your theories in his ‘Cars aren’t really Cars’ video. He said he liked the idea of it.

        • I’m not “dissing” MatPat for having an opinion. He plagiarized SuperCarlinBros and turned their idea into a video without any proper credit, which is totally uncool. That has nothing to do with him mentioning my theories in his videos, as he did credit me, but that doesn’t make up for stealing someone else’s ideas and arguments and trying to pass them off as his own.

  13. Where would Zootopia fit into this? Possibly after bugs start to repopulate but before the monsters come along

    • Zootopia is not Pixar. Zootopia was made by Disney. Planes is only technically included due to it being the EXACT SAME setting and tone as Cars.

  14. Why is the Pixar movie Meet the Roberson’s not on the timeline and also Zootopia?

    • Because neither of those are Pixar, they’re Disney. Honestly people, the full list of Pixar movies is IN THE ARTICLE!

      • Pixar is part of Disney tho so how does all theses other movies fit in if planes counts

        • Disney owns Pixar. NO Disney movies are connected to Pixar as far as we know, except Planes because they emphasize over and over that it’s in the world of Cars.

  15. You know how the witch in brave is obsessed with bears, like Sully?
    Lotso.
Lotso is a toy, but also crosses the line to monster, leading me to believe that monsters are just super evolved and crossbred toys. Archaic distrust of humans from the FLUFFY BEAR AND GREEN ALIEN in Monster’s Inc. could stem from the fact that the toy that threw their ancestral father (i don’t know whether or not mike wazowski is descended from any of the alien toys) was a human child model.
”The guy may seem plush and huggable on the outside, but inside…. he’s a MONSTER.”
    Coincidence? I think not.

TLDR (really? it’s like a paragraph. Let’s just call this he simplified, nonrambly version)
-When Lotso was thrown into the bin by the baby doll at the end of toy story three, he didn’t die since it was his hatred, not his connection to humans that kept him going in the first place.
-Instead of dying, he created his own underground civilisation of monsters with some other toys, which lay dormant, through the time of BNL, emerging when all the humans were gone.
-Then his civilisation, founded on the chinese-whispery aforementioned “Babies are evil” philosophy, went back to terrorise children, continuing Lotso’s hatred.
-The Monsters Inc. film isn’t a tale of joy and adventure, but rather one of cross-species reconciliation, with Boo redeeming humanity in the eyes of those they had shunned (When Lotso was abandoned).

I reaally want one of those crazy wall/bulletin things with all the scribbles and string and stuff.

    • Boo is also helping the monsters to forget their roots in Lotso because she is encouraging friendship between the species. The friendship is actually pointless anyway in the end, because (super-smart, potentially innately magical) Boo doesn’t know that the Monsters are thousands of years in the future.

  16. @Jon_Negroni, Will you possibly update this page with information about Planes’ place in the timeline, we know it takes place in the timeline because Brent Musanberger, who appeared in Cars 2, appeared in both Planes films, aand there were the pictures of Sarge and Lighting McQueen visible in Cars 2, this tells us that Planes & Planes 2 is set before Cars 3, as MCQueen looks like he will be retiring in that film.

Jay Ward, the creative director of the Cars franchise has recently confirmed one aspect of your thoery, that Cars & Planes are set in a world where Cars took over from Humans? You can do an article about this part.

    http://www.screengeek.net/2017/04/29/dark-theory-cars-confirmed-executive/

& I ask of you, could you do a chapter explaining the connection between Sofia the First and the Pixar Universe? You may have to do some research.

Also, Inside Out can’t be set in 2015, because Riley is visible in Finding Dory. Unless, of course, you can move up Finding Dory & Finding Nemo in the timelne? And in reply to that person above talking about the 2009 tickets we see in Toy Story 3, I agree. Toy Story 3 is set in 2010. Up is set before Toy Story 3, in 2007.

  17. I disagree with where Bugs Life is set. There are human aspects unless bugs can use bug zappers and live in trailers.

  18. This is all just a slightly changed version of the Pixar theory from http://www.pixartheory.com/

The only differences are the specific times, when Wall-E takes place on the time line, and some of the newer films are represented.

    • As you’ll find in their sources tab at the bottom, everything on there was inspired by this post.
