Another year of film is about to pass, so I did something a bit different to mark the occasion. You’ve probably seen a few tributes like the one shown above, but hopefully you’ll find that this one is a bit more thematic than others. Each song choice, scene, and even some edits plays into a larger theme of what 2018 meant to me as a filmgoer. Also, I purposefully chose 162 films to highlight, which obviously includes movies I haven’t even seen yet, as well as films I didn’t even particularly like. But I know many of you watching did, and I want to celebrate the universal appeal of cinema for everyone. Not just me.
With the debut of Shane Black’s The Predator, we here at ATAIG decided to do what we normally do and take a look back at the entire Predator series leading up to this point. We revisit the original classic, the lesser-known sequel, the notorious crossover, the even MORE notorious crossover, the other lesser-known sequel, and the latest controversial installment in theaters now. There are plenty of agreements and disagreements along the way (some more surprising than others), and we hope you like hearing what we have to say. Enjoy!
Hosted by Sam Noland, Jason Read, and Anthony Battaglia!
Question For You: Which Predator movie is your favorite? Also, where could you see the franchise going from here? Finally, should we supplement this episode with an Alien-centered episode sometime in the near future?
Franchise, franchise, franchise! The Predator aims to be a revival of the late 80s action franchise continued by a direct sequel, two spin-off crossovers, and a previous attempt at reigniting the hunt. Directed and co-written by Shane Black (who appeared in the first Predator), this latest imagining of the alien horrors is an action horror…comedy? On Cinemaholics this week, I discuss how that works with Will Ashton of Cinemablend and Maveryke Hines, our sound producer.
Mini reviews this week include A Simple Favor, Bojack Horseman Season 5, White Boy Rick, The Nun, Peppermint, Marvel’s Spider-Man for PS4, Iron Fist Season 2, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan Season 1, and The Dragon Prince Season 1.
Next week: Should we review The House with a Clock in its Walls or Life Itself? Let us know which you’d prefer in the comments!
We also have a big announcement…
