Cinemaholics Review: Sicario: Day of the Soldado

soldado

Sam Noland is back on the show again for the first time in a while to help us review Sicario: Day of the Soldado, the sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s surprise 2015 hit. You’ll notice this is an extra-long episode of the show (mainly by accident), and part of the reason is because our Day of the Soldado review might just be our longest one yet that doesn’t include spoilers. We had a fascinating discussion about the movie, coming at it from about as many angles as you can imagine.

We had a lengthy movie news segment as well, which you’ll see in the show notes for the image. Plus an early mini review for Ant-Man & The Wasp that leaves out any and all spoilers. From there, our mini reviews got pretty laid back, especially once Sam broke out the Jeff Goldblum impression. While editing this episode, I couldn’t help but save it all and let you hear the full version.

Question for you: What is your favorite Jeff Goldblum movie?

  1. You had me at Sam Noland.

  2. Greetings, Cinemaholics. Don’t worry, this is a different Samuel James, har har. I want to commend you for your fair-minded review of Sicario: Soldado, but also Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. I listen to Cinemaholics every week because I love engaging with the latest movie reviews, and I’ve found many of the other review shows I used to enjoy (cough cough /filmcast) have been nothing but “this sucks, this is amazing” and lacking of the sort of insight and polite disagreement I’ve been getting consistently from you fine gents. Where else do we get a 10 minute Jeff Goldblum impression detailing the excitement and wonder had during a watching of 2001: A Space Odyssey remastered? Well, thankfully, we no longer have to speculate. Thank you again, and to answer this week’s question, my favorite Jeff Goldblum movie is the one where he plays, mm, a scientist.

  3. Jeff Goldblum has been seriously good in his last few movies (I guess Jurassic World too however limited he was in that). But Isle of Dogs and Thor: Ragnarok were made better just by his presence, in my opinion.
