Cinemaholics Review: Justice League and The Punisher Season 1

Justice

Is Justice League the last comic book movie of 2017? If so, what a bizarre ending to one of the most bizarre years in comic book movie history (at least in recent years). What should have been the biggest comic book movie since, well, The Avengers, has arrived with little-to-no fanfare, but we’re here to judge the movie on its own, removed from any hype it may attempt to earn by merit of its seven icons.

I’m joined this week by my trusty cohosts Will Ashton and Maveryke Hines, but also special guest Craig Hanks from the Legendarium Podcast. You may remember I guested on that show to talk about The Dark Tower back in August, and per the holy podcast networking laws hiding in plain sight, it’s only fair to have Craig on this week to share his thoughts on Justice League, the DCEU, and where this frenetic franchise is headed next.

Aside from Justice League, we talk about The Punisher Season 1, plus some new movies you might be interested in. Pixar’s Coco (full review next week), Last Flag Flying, and Wonder get a few minutes each, and we finished out the show with some banter about new movies to come over the Thanksgiving holiday.

  3. After all this debate over Justice League, I wish I’d just pulled a quick yes-or-no before buying my ticket 😅. I’ve been using https://www.tarotyesno.net/ lately for those small everyday decisions — surprisingly fun when you can’t make up your mind about anything, even movies!

  4. I really enjoyed listening to your thoughts on Justice League and The Punisher! It’s such an interesting contrast between the lighthearted team dynamics of DC and the gritty, intense character study of Frank Castle. I love sharing these kinds of reviews on my social media profiles. To make my posts stand out, I often use https://mojistyle.tools to customize the text. Great episode, keep up the good work!

  5. Great review of Justice League and The Punisher! Speaking of memory, have you tried Dialed GG Daily? It’s a fun color memory game that really tests your brain.

  6. I was genuinely curious about the comparison between Justice League’s messy tone and Punisher’s more focused grittiness. Do you think the shift toward lighter group dynamics actually hurt the pacing more than a darker solo approach?

  7. I found the comparison between the rushed team-up in Justice League and the slower character study in Punisher really interesting. It reminds me how older superhero shows used to take their time building arcs—maybe that’s what blockbusters are missing today.

  8. It’s fascinating to revisit this discussion on the DCEU’s direction. I’m using ScriptMind to turn long movie podcasts into quick text notes, making it much easier to capture expert insights like these.

  9. Seeing Coco mentioned brings such a warm feeling—films and travel are both windows into culture. For inspiration on exploring cinematic ancient cities and landmarks, check out WanderChina.Guide.

  10. I like how the review doesn’t just praise or trash everything—it calls out the messy pacing in Justice League while still finding some fun moments. I’ve been on a bit of a Wacky Steps path with superhero movies lately, and this kind of balanced take actually makes me want to rewatch it with a different mindset.

  11. This is a soulful and honest critique! In our role as Cultural Ambassadors in Yunnan and Tibet, we are always seeking the ‘authentic soul’ and ‘original source’ of local heritage, so your brief mention of Pixar’s ‘Coco’ really caught my eye [4, 8, Conversation History]. Stories that explore family and heritage resonate deeply with the cultural values we uncover in Southwest China [Conversation History]. Whether you are reviewing a gritty character study like ‘The Punisher’ or a vibrant cultural film, the key is finding that human connection [4, 8, Conversation History]. It’s great to see a podcast that values community and invites listeners to ‘mingle’ and share thoughts—it perfectly aligns with our belief in collaborative discovery [5, Conversation History]!

  12. Great review — superhero stories are always interesting to discuss because so much of the experience comes from visual style, pacing, and how characters are adapted across different media.

I’m also building a small tool for manga and webtoon readers: Manga Translator — it helps translate comic pages while preserving the original layout.

  18. The 60-second capacity of a physics simulation video generator opened up long-form storytelling for me. I can now generate complete commercial-length videos instead of stitching together short clips. The fact that you can switch between different generation approaches without leaving the platform makes creative exploration feel effortless and intuitive.

  19. Loved your point about Justice League being a “bizarre ending to one of the most bizarre years in comic book movie history.” It really did feel like an anticlimax after everything else that year. I remember feeling the same way walking out of the theater.

Did you guys find yourselves trying to separate the film from all the behind-the-scenes drama while watching, or did that baggage just feel unavoidable? And what’s your take on how much of that “bizarre” feeling came from the movie itself versus the overall DCEU context at that time?

  20. For anyone doing high-end video content, a video generator with region-based mask editing delivers the resolution and quality that professional work demands. The 4K output is crisp and artifact-free. It pairs nicely with traditional editing software for a hybrid workflow.

  21. The Avengers was mentioned as a benchmark for Justice League, (perfect for creators looking to bring their ideas to life quickly and easily.) and I totally felt that comparison while reading this on the subway, making it perfect for creators looking to bring their ideas to life quickly and easily. Does the gritty character study of Frank Castle ever feel too heavy for you?
