I’ve been hanging on to this theory since before I even watched the movie back in November. In fact, the movie itself almost confirms that this is what will happen when Disney ultimately makes the Big Hero 6 sequel.
Oh? You don’t think there will be a sequel?
Here we go.

Big Hero 6 is one of the riskiest animated movies Disney has ever made. Period. They’ve never spent that much money to make a film based on something so obscure. Even Wreck-It Ralph and Meet the Robinsons looked better on paper to a Disney executive.
And it paid off. On top of getting the Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Movie, Big Hero 6 made half a billion in the box office. Only Frozen and The Lion King have made more money than this film.
That, and it’s based off of a serial comic connected to Disney’s other money-making machine: Marvel. And if there’s one thing Marvel and Disney know how to do together, it’s making Marvel sequels.

Keep in mind that although Disney has traditionally shied away from making sequels to its flagship animated features, they’ve also learned from Pixar and even DreamWorks that sequels are worth doing if the creatives behind them want the story to be told.
That’s why even Wreck-It Ralph is getting a sequel, and Frozen is of course getting milked in all sorts of media. Even though it’s not in development yet, Big Hero 6 is almost 100% for sure getting a sequel. And it will probably be called…
Big Hero 7.

That “7” will belong to a character we know from the first movie: Tadashi. I’m calling it right now. He’ll be a villain of sorts in the sequel, inevitably joining the team fully to add that number (after all, Big Hero 6 2Â is just weird branding).
But wait! Tadashi isn’t a superhero. He’s not even alive!
Only one of those statements is true, considering he was a hero, as proven by your belief he died.

Let’s put on our flashback hats and revisit just what exactly happened to the older brother of Hiro Hamada.
Hiro wanted to get accepted into the robotics program at the university where his brother and friends attended. To do this, he had to impress Callahan amidst a competitive group of other scientific geniuses. Somehow, a fire broke out, trapping Callahan. Tadashi, Hiro’s older brother, ran back inside to save him, but the building exploded moments later.

Later, we learn Callahan survived by accessing Hiro’s microbots, but it appeared Tadashi didn’t make it.
Look, if you know anything about movies, it’s that if there’s no body, that character is alive. That’s just a rule. I’m not the one who made it up.

Second, the inclusion of a fire is tantamount to how this theory works. Where do you think it came from? Most likely, one of the inventions, and no one else apparently died from its flames.
I believe this invention had to do with nuclear energy. Why? Because Big Hero 6 (and Disney) is purposefully setting up Tadashi to be Sunfire, one of the original members of the first Big Hero 6 team and a prominent character in the Marvel universe.

One of the inventions, or even something special about the fire itself, must have given Tadashi abilities that would protect him from harm, ultimately transforming him into Sunfire.
Now, I imagine a good number of you already assumed this because you know certain things. Well, here’s some more ammunition for you to spread around.
Sunfire is a Japanese mutant (like X-Men mutant) who can absorb heat and turn it into plasma. In the comics, his mutant powers were triggered by radiation from Hiroshima. He’s been in comics since the 1970s as an Uncanny Avenger, member of the X-Men, and of course, a member of the original Big Hero 6 team.

One important thing to note is that Marvel is currently forbidden from even using the word “mutant” in its movies, making it difficult for them to use any characters from the X-Men side of Marvel. But they have managed to find wiggle room with characters like Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, who have many affiliations.
The same can easily go for Sunfire, and his story arc is already perfectly progressing. When Sunfire reluctantly joins Big Hero 6 in the comics (after being found by Hiro, no doubt), he actually gets possessed by their enemy and becomes a villain.

I doubt the movie would use this villain, who is known as Everwraith, because he’s literally the combined legion of souls destroyed by the atomic bombs that fell on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. That’s tough to write out. But Disney could easily find another way to leverage this story arc to create some compelling narrative surrounding Hiro and his lost brother.
After all, can you imagine a fight between Tadashi/Sunfire and Baymax/Hiro? That would make Revenge of the Sith look like The Babysitters Club.

And hey, if Elsa can have ice powers…
My biggest evidence for this theory being true is the fact is that this all fits way too perfectly for Disney not to do it. I can’t even imagine what else the writers should or could do to make the sequel even bigger than the first movie, which frankly suffered from being too much of an origin story instead of a movie about superheroes actually being superheroes.

Big Hero 6 is one of the most beautiful animated films of our time, and a beacon of the Disney Revival. And that’s why I think it deserves a sequel that delivers a story that is just as sincere and passionate as the first one.
And hopefully, more of the team outside of Hiro and Baymax…
Good theory but Sunfire, unlike Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, has the character rights entirely tied up to Fox (no wiggle room which Disney has with Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch due to their Avengers connection).
Sounds interesting, but Sunfire is completely owned by FOX, and Silver Samurai was the villain in the good Wolverine movie. However, I completely support this concept if they use a new character and name if they do make a sequel because I like it if Disney is somewhat original (and the movie has little following on its source material anyway.
P.S. Although a spoiler (and sort of an ad) Big Hero 6 will be involved in the Pixar Detective spinoff on Wattpad whenever it will be posted on Wattpad, along with another movie, Interstellar. My Wattpad name and a sneak peak of that spinoff will be revealed on March 3rd, the day Chapter 21 of the Pixar Detective gets posted.
PPS I am getting less patient for Part 2 of the Pixar Detective, and the month is almost over. There are so much promises in expanding everything that I can barely wait anymore.
Big Hero 6 is animated, so Disney has way more room to make a deal with Fox over this. Just look at how they’ve handled Ultimate Spider-Man.
Part 2 is coming this Tuesday. Sorry for the wait!
Sony has the movie rights to Spider-Man, and the show is animated, so something is suspicious there. Big. Hero 6 is a movie, and FOX has the rights to X-Men, so I feel suspicious over this. That is why I favor a fresh new character to be Tadashi.
The 24th of February? OK. I am planning to do some ads about the spinoff at that time, as well as prepare my Wattpad account.
Tuesday is ending, I still don’t see Part 2.
Disney owns the TV rights to all the Marvel characters. The TV and movie rights are separate. This is why Sony and Disney had to make the deal they did to bring Spiderman into the MCU.
If they want Sunfire in Big Hero 7, then Disney and FOX needs to make a deal, just like with Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch.
Disney and Fox didn’t make a deal for Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. They’re part of the Avengers franchise, which Marvel has rights to.. it’s complicated because it’s the same characters in two different series, but you’ll notice that QS and SW will never be referred to as mutants. Inhumans maybe, but never mutants.
That would be AWESOME! 😀
I actually hoped Tadashi would come back during the first movie as the villain, because it could have been really interesting to see how Hiro would react to his own brother fighting against him, and (quite frankly) WAY more interesting the villain we actually got.
If they choose to go with this idea for the next film (and do it right), we could get a really epic movie.
I think they will surely bring back Tadashi.
I mean, Big Hero 6’s storybase is Tadashi’s death. If they made another movie, they can’t just forget Tadashi completely. It’s like forgetting one of the major character.
For me, a sequel without his presence is just weird.
I saw Big Hero 6 last night and it was really bold and brave for Disney to do this, and beat Interstellar at the box office. Anyway, the movie (and this theory) would inspire me to make ANOTHER story that I would post on Wattpad. It would lead up to the Interstellar Heroes portion of the spinoff, I got most of the stories in my head and I can’t wait to put those on the book.
Disney mines the Marvel Comics back catalogue for its latest animation Big Hero 6, a delightfully entertaining East/West genre blend that’s a neat addition to the ever-expanding superhero genre.
in the image above of the selfie on the phone- who is the scarey red haired clown in the background?
Illuminati.
Sunfire? Unlikely.
Marvel would probably bring Tadashi back as the Ebon Samurai. Y’know . . . a Big Hero 6 character from the original comics who was actually a dead man brought back to life . . .
Nice article, I’ve read it becouse I really want to Tadashi big return 😀 But I’m afraid that’s impossible. How would they explain that he didn’t appear at home after he survive the fire and let his family suffer? Ok, maybe they will figure it out. But Sunfire? Not possible. In animation Disney made all super powers just of a science, not supernatural skills, which won’t change I fear. Besides in the closing credits there is a notes from newspaper where Hiro awarded grant AND where is opening some building (hospital?) named after Tadashi Hamada. For me that means he won’t return. But hey, who forbid me to live with hope? Thanks for article (sorry for any spelling (or other) mistakes).
To respond to that Isabelle, I think Tadashi could be in a really long coma elsewhere or in hiding in order to control his powers. I also don’t believe that Sunfire could be introduced. I have some ideas with this that can be put in the spinoff I am working on. One of them may involve this theory.
I was with you until Sunfire came into play. Everything about the comics has been changed for the movie apart from the names themselves and only using the normal humans of the series and giving them science based “powers”, and Marvel distanced themselves from the movie opting for no Marvel branding or marketing. Plus, as others have mentioned, Sunfire is a mutant and part of the X-Men franchise thus his rights are owned by Fox. He could come back as a character loosely based on Sunfire like Scorch was in Agents of SHIELD season 1, but that would greatly shift it from being grounded in science to supernatural abilities… or genetic change which could be science but more along the lines of fiction unless he was creating a fire based tech that fused with his skin during the explosion but that would pretty much refute how he seemingly spent all his time working on Baymax.
I believe Disney can still work around this. For one thing, they don’t have to name this character “Sunfire” for it to work, especially if he never officially joins the team and gains his own codename. It’s really the spirit and abilities of this character I could see transferring to Tadashi.
Genius
You should look into the Disney XD show, Gravity Falls. Seems like you could figure that show out well enough.
My second spinoff (Not the main one) is almost here. In a few days or so, we get to know what else I am working on, as well as why I posted this info on this specific blog.
If u want tadashi back go here and support… https://www.change.org/p/the-walt-disney-company-bring-back-tadashi-hamada
If you want to see chapter 1 of the Interstellar Heroes, then you can check it out. There is a huge twist in the end that may have to do with this blog.

Why can’t marvel use mutant?
Because Marvel doesn’t have the rights, FOX does.
Well, 1. theres no gibs because if someone dies from explosions theres gibs. 2. Theres no body and/or the microbots probably protected both of them because hiro was imagining R. Callahan being protected but not tadashi because he thinks he is dead even tough he is not.
See what I mean?!
Tadash is a Hero because he wanted to save Prof. Callahan like a hero. He also is a nice dude and respectful.
hope you are right but he seems dead to me… but a walking dead story may work 😀
I thought Callahan started the fire so he could steal the nanobots. There was no body because he was incinerated. Your theory doesn’t satisfy me.
Actually, callahan used the nanobots to protect himself (he wasn’t a bad guy this time since his daughter wasn’t still sent to that portal)
Well, I don’t think Tadashi will return. Firstly, each character plays his own role in the film or animation. And Tadashi’s function was to be a role model for Hiro. Moreover, his second role was just to be a kind and caring brother for him. And now this is to the Baymax. Even an actor, who played Tadashi said ‘
I don’t think Tadashi will return. Firstly, each character plays his own role in the film or animation. Tadashi’s mission was to be a role model for Hiro. Then, he did it, so Hiro grew up mentally. Moreover, Tadashi was kind of parent and a friend of Hiro, now these roles are represented in Baymax. Even an actor, who played Tadashi said that Baymax is a representation of Tadashi, he acts the same as a caring bigger brother.
In my previous comment I was thinking how to express my thoughts better ( i’m not from an englishspeaking country), could you please delete these it?)
