Now that Avengers: Infinity War has finally been released, we were able to continue our breakdown of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). We start by catching up on Ant-Man, which we didn’t realize was part of Phase 2, followed by our breakdown of Phase 3 (so far). From Captain America: Civil War all the way to Avengers: Infinity War, we analyze, debate, agree, and disagree about the previous 7 installments of the MCU.

Yes, been waiting for this. Sam, when will you all be reviewing the DCEU movies?
We were planning on doing that when Aquaman comes out in December. We might think about doing it sooner since December’s a bit far off, but we will get to it sooner or later 🙂
Man, it was a bummer to hear Guardians 2 didn’t work for any of you. I personally loved it more than the first film, but it does have problems. Still, saying the soundtrack isn’t as meaningful as the first one is way off in my opinion. I loved it way more and I got the sense that James Gunn (not me btw) picked every song out with a lot of care…except for that Cat Stephens one.
I think the main issue we took with the soundtrack was that it just didn’t quite feel the same as the original. I do think there’s meaning and inspiration in the song choice, but the tone is much different than vol. 1, and I guess it didn’t really gel for any of us. It’s great to hear that you liked it, though 🙂 I would hate for this to only be negative
Interesting. I guess I prefer the tone they went for with Vol. 2. It really felt like a B-side, to borrow from what Jon said on Cinemaholics (I re-listened to that part of the review to get his take and it’s interestingly different to you guys). I appreciate that you guys are bold in your opinions, to be totally fair and I think they’re well argued.
Arguing our views well is pretty much everything we could hope for 🙂 The B-side argument is really good; I’ll keep that in mind going forward.
Oh hey everyone. Thanks for mentioning my cameo in Ant-Man.
Credit where credit’s due 🙂 We would be remiss not to highlight your impressive stunt work
I love this podcast. Please keep doing more episodes.
Thanks Marisa! We definitely plan to 🙂
Phase 3 is easily the best of the MCU. With the exception of Doctor Strange, it’s the most consistently inventive and out of the box. Civil War and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 are true highlights for me and I’m on the same Spider-Man Homecoming/Thor Ragnarok train of love. Black Panther is a damn masterpiece, Sam, don’t be afraid to say it.
It’s always an interesting situation when someone is in the minority among a small group, but they’re in the majority when it comes to general consensus. I’m glad that most people are on my side here 🙂
Phase 1 will always be my favorite. It doesn’t have all the best films, but it has the best opener and the best closer combination, Iron Man – Avengers
That’s an interesting way to look at it; Phase 2 would definitely lose that battle in the long run.
Sam: Have you and the Pod People considered doing a Facebook Live podcast? Where the fans get to see the Pod People in all their glory talking about movies? You probably have the connections to make it happen. The Pod Father probably has an opinion on this front.

Diving deeper into the Marvel Cinematic Universe! Part 2 explores the intricate connections between Phase 2 films. From Loki’s scepter influencing events to the burgeoning threats hinted at, the MCU is a meticulously crafted puzzle. Finding all the pieces feels like navigating a complex level in Slope; a single misstep can throw you off course.
Great breakdown! Phase 3 definitely has higher highs, especially Thor: Ragnarok and Black Panther. While Phase 2 was consistent, Phase 3 took bigger risks. I’ve been playing Block Blast recently and oddly enough, thinking about the strategic placements in that game reminds me of how well Phase 3 builds to Infinity War.
That’s a great recap! I’ve been hooked on the MCU since Iron Man. For me, Phase 3 is the most exciting so far. The stakes were raised, the characters evolved, and Infinity War was just epic. Speaking of epic battles, if you enjoy some action-packed competition, you should try out Basketball Stars. It’s a fun way to unwind after all that MCU intensity!
