Retro Reviews – Now Conspiring

podcast(1)

This week we get together to discuss some classic movies we have been meaning to watch for a long time. Sam gives his opinion of Casablanca, Maria crossed off Psycho from her list and Bridget finally saw Pulp Fiction. Some were impressed by these films. Some were not. Can you guess who?

We also bring back a shorter version of Bridget’s Science corner, where Bridget discusses six new science facts discovered this year.

By the end we were faced with the most difficult Kiss Marry Kill ever. Friendships ended as consequence.

Question of the Week: What critically acclaimed movie you still haven’t seen? Let us know in the comments!

  1. I still haven’t seen Fight Club! At this minute that’s the most critically acclaimed film I haven’t yet seen! I had some recommendations that I should read the book first to fully enjoy or understand the film! Anyway I surprised that you didn’t discussed more about what’s in the pulp fiction box!? I don’t know? Maybe Marcelus Wallace’s soul!? I remember seeing Pulp Fiction for the first time and didn’t had any problems with the timeline or the plot! Sometimes is better not to overanalyse films! The only Hitchcock film I find boring is probably The Trouble With Harry! Oh yeah… and Dumbo saw the pink elephants cause he was wasted!!!

Before seeing Baby Driver you should definitely check out The Driver with Ryan O’Neal cause it probably was the inspiration for Baby Driver!

Sofia Coppola’s The Beguiled is not that original cause it’s actually a remake of 1971 Don Siegel film starring Clint Eastwood! According to her it’s not a remake but another adaptation based on the novel but who is she kidding! I think that her adaptation has dropped much of the subplots of the original film to focus more on the main story cause it’s only 90 minutes long!

Anyway both films are following the same basic plot about the wounded union soldiers found by the southern women who take care of him and slowly became fond if him but when they start seducing him he start to seduce some of them and crazy sh*t happens! Since both films have the same plot I will not spoil anything!

  2. So much Owen Wilson hating, you guys should rename your podcast ‘Now Hating Owen Wilson’ or ‘Full-time Owen Wilson Haters’ (sorry, I have to back up my fellow alumnus).

Pulp Fiction wasn’t low budget, it wasn’t big budget either, but it was pretty comfortable for the type of movie it was. Also Edgar Wright didn’t direct Ant-Man, he was going to originally but then he left. He did direct the masterpiece, Scott Pilgrim Vs The World. I’m super excited for Baby Driver even though the trailers look dumb.

    I’ve seen all the classics

  3. Hmmm. For Kiss Marry Kill with Sam, Bridget, and Maria, I would marry Bridget because I love science as well, kiss Sam because although I love his impressions, I wouldn’t want to live with them for my whole life, and kill Maria (sorry Maria, you are great, but there was no way for you to live).

It’s a bummer about the name change, if you remember, I liked The Voice-Over, but I can super happy that Jon is coming back for one more episode. Ever since Jon and Kayla left, there has been a different atmosphere, but you guys still make the podcast great!

  4. I am appeased. You will never hear from me again.

  5. I’m ashamed to say I haven’t seen any of these three.

And as you can tell, I’m capitalizing my sentences and using proper grammar now. My aesthetic is ruined. Thanks a lot, Sam. I’m killing you, marrying Maria, and kissing Bridget.

  6. Hello again (friend of a friend/i knew you when/our common goal/was waiting for/the world to end)
Jerry, I also love Scott Pilgrim vs the World.

I haven’t seen a lot of classics because I feel like I need to be in the right mentality in order to appreciate them and also because I’m guilty of procrastinating haha

Who is Kayla? I know Jon via the Pixar Theory but I haven’t listened to previous podcast episodes do I need to in order to understand the reunion?
