13 Reasons Why Bridget Hates Maria – Now Conspiring

podcast (1)

It’s just us girls this week — Maria and Bridget — talking about personal stuff; and by ”talking” I mean Maria asking questions and Bridget hating Maria for it. And by ”personal stuff” I mean questions about our favorite movies and what they mean to us.

After making Bridget uncomfortable, we move on to talk in depth about the latest Netflix series 13 Reasons Why and how it represents suicide, teenage depression and bullying.

Then, during the Comment on your Comments section, we have a sequel to our previous Science throwdown, although this time it is less intense and more amicable.

Question of the Week: What Netflix shows or movies do you recommend?

Survey:  Don’t forget to put in your two cents for our podcast name change. Here are the options. Let us know your favorite one in the comment section.

  1. Series of Unfortunate Events
    Ultimate Beastmaster
    The Projectionists

  2. I don’t plan on watching 13 reasons why because it seems like it’s romanticizing mental illness. From what I’ve heard in the end the suicide of Hannah is used as a lesson to teach people that your words and actions impact people etc etc – this is a great message for neurotypicals (people who don’t have fucked up brains) but for those of us who have depression it’s like a punch in the gut. Can you learn from someone’s suicide? Yes, of course – just like you can learn from other horrible things in life. But to take the death of a girl who didn’t want to keep living and tie a pretty bow on it to make it an anti-bullying campaign is insulting. Is that all our lives are worth – to prove a point to some people?

    I’m very angry about this

    • I agree, the show goes as far as to show the suicide on screen, it’s bound to be triggering to people with mental illness

  3. Okay personally I like “the night shift” because we always record these at night

  4. Watch one day at a time! It’s a sitcom about a Cuban family based off an old one of the same name. The mother Penelope is newly single and moves the family to America and we follow their lives as they adjust. All the characters are very well written and it’s such a good show!

  5. the get down is pretty good it has latinx and black representation and the music is dope its by baz luhrman so it looks stunning

  6. instead of would you rather can you guys play kiss marry kill? I think that would be fun and with kiss marry kill you can’t really avoid answering

  7. My family isn’t subscribed to Netflix-it’s a real bummer-but after listening to you guys talk about 13 Reasons Why, I bought the book and read it within a day. I don’t know how it compares to the show, but it was really good! I would give you a would you rather, but my questions are just basic. I love you guys and I can’t wait to listen to your next episode! “Voice-Over” all the way!

  8. I was unable to watch 13 Reasons Why on Netflix since my family does not have the service, but I got the book after hearing so much about it. I can’t say how well it holds up against the show, but it was fantastic on its own. I’d give you a would you rather, but all of my questions are rather simple. I’m a huge fan of the show and can’t wait for the next installment. The “Voice-Over” method is the best!
