  1. I think Deadpool should’ve been released on the same day as Zootopia, and I don’t care the day both movies get released, what matters is that both should’ve found one day to compete against each other. That would create a great experiment to see whether an family animated movie about animals or a superhero movie like Deadpool would make the most money. It would be greater than Interstellar vs Big Hero 6.

As for your question, I think Hollywood should make more Original Movies and make potential franchises out of those instead of going to Marvel or Star Wars or based on a Teen Dystopian novel for example. I think Hollywood should make at least one original franchise per decade.

  2. I have to disagree with you guys on the CGI debate (because if it wasn’t before, this is now an debate). There is one reason and one reason only as to why you and most other people prefer practical effects over CGI. And that is because CGI is still new. We are still learning how to use it. As you said, it can be done poorly, but so can practical effects. Poor CGI is just fresher in our memories and that’s why we criticize it. But when talking about poor CG, everyone references the Star Wars prequels which came out in 2005 (I’ll do the math for you, that’s eleven years). As I’ve said before, our tech is always changing and improving. And in the past eleven years, it has done just that. Look at Mad Max: Fury Road or Star Wars Episode VII. Both used excellent CG, not because they had an amazing budget and an amazing special effects team, but because CG isn’t actually bad. It just needed to get its footing in the industry, and since it wasn’t instantaneous people have labeled it as the lesser of the two visual effects. I get that practical effects feel real and it’s easier to imagine that whatever the character is experiencing is something that they’re actually experiencing. However, that just isn’t the case anymore. With the way we are able to make movies, it’s nearly impossible to tell the difference between practical effects and CG. If you can tell, then that’s studio’s fault for forcing the desired visual effect on too low of a budget. I can go on and on about this because I am very adamant about this, but I do have an entire article dedicated to this on Moviepilot and will just leave it at that for now.

  3. Also, I do feel pretty awkward now that Maria and Kayla are shipping Adonis and I. My comment from last week probably didn’t help with that… That was way smoother than I’d intended…

    • I’m going to be completely honest with you, Bridget – I ship you and Adonis too. Is that weird?

      • Apparently it’s not weird since you’re (currently) the third person to voice this. Uncomfortable, definitely (for me at least). I can’t speak for Adonis, but it’s definitely strange being on the receiving end of a ship. Even stranger for it to be a ship with someone I’ve never actually met

        • I’ve never been on a ship, though I was incredibly close to going on the Disney Cruise last year. But don’t feel too awkward Bridget. Maria and Kayla will ship me with literally anyone because they’re like those two old ladies who gossip during knitting class :p

          • That makes sense. You are their Adonis, as Maria made very clear. However, I don’t think they’d be knitting. They’d probably sit on the front porch throwing shade at anyone who walked past. Maybe having wheelchair races on the weekends. Telling young whippersnappers to get off their yard. Being completely senile because they’re finally old enough that they can do that without getting weird looks. And I can definitely see Kayla organizing it perfectly so that when she’s on her deathbed her last words will be “I hid my fortune under the–“

            • Sorry for making you feel uncomfortable, then.

@Adonis- Kayla and Maria as disgruntled old ladies? THIS IS THE QUALITY CONTENT THAT I’M HERE FOR.

  4. Kudos to Jon for referencing my favorite rom-com, even though you don’t think I’m amazing. But hey, you can’t win them all can you? Am I right Adonis? As for the question of the week I feel like Jon stole my answer so not much i could say except that I’m glad Jon is finally watching a horror movie. I can already hear the screaming. Don’t worry Jon, Kayla will hold your hand all the way through. Before I go just a quick reminder, Maria make sure you check on Sam at least once a week. That boy can get lonely with just a copy of Pulp Fiction and a stuffed penguin.

    • Amy’s right. The DVD player is wearing out, and my relationship with Ringo has hit a rough patch. You know how penguins are. Also, Maria, if you’re reading this, I don’t mind The Gimp being here, but can you tell him to blink once in a while? Thanks.

  5. Greetings, Conspiracy Colossuses. Sadly, I did not see Deadpool, so I had to skip the spoiler-filled portion of the show, which I’m sure was hilarious. Anyway, I’m sorry I missed your message last week, but I was busy anyway seeing Bill Burr live, which was awesome. As for this week’s question, I wish that more Westerns were made nowadays. It seems like there’s one good one every three years or so, and 60% of them are directed by Quentin Tarantino. Don’t get me wrong, THERE’S NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT AT ALL. I just wish we had a director like Sergio Leone, or an actor like John Wayne to bring us back to the times of Charles Bronson’s harmonica, or Clint Eastwood’s goatee. Boy, those were the days. Oh, well. In other news, I’m starting to go delusional down here, waiting for the day that Jodie Foster will come to save me from Maria. The only thing keeping me from turning into Gollum is Samuel L. Jackson telling me that he’s trying to be the shepherd. Farewell, and don’t attempt to poison and destroy my brothers.

  6. Sorry for my long absence! PODCAST MVP goes to Kayla for making sure I didn’t fall into spoilers for Deadpool. Also, is Maria trapped in a building undergoing a gas leak filled with butterflies?

  7. I need to say one thing: # Roomategrayson where is he? Also I have gone back and ranked every Pixar movie here is my official list:

    D:

    E:

    F:

What do you think? DreamWorks edition coming soon.

    • How does Monsters University and Brave get a lower rating than Cars 2?

      • I agree Brave is too high and Cars 2 but I would still put them above University because I was more disappointed with the prequel then I was with Cars 2 and even Brave which is weird because I loved Cars 1 and some of my ancestry goes back to Scotland I’d give Cars 2 C Brave an D+ and Monsters University probably an E something. Hope that sounds better.

  8. P.S. I know I’m late but I just finally finished listening to the new episodes and I want to say about the Star Wars/Marvel lasting forever episode thank you for dedicating that song for me that touched me and you didn’t have to do that so I appreciate it.

  9. One of my favourite films is Brief Encounter, I know it’s old but it’s such a heartbreakingly beautiful story and doesn’t even have a happy ending, I think Hollywood could do with making more films like this, it would make films less predictable. If you haven’t seen it, the basic story line is a man and a woman meet and fall in love but they are both married so can’t be together and at the end he moves away and they never see each other again. I find with love films nowadays there’s always a man and a woman and they fall in love and live happily ever after, but they’re always so fake and not like real life. Even though we watch films as a form of escapism it would be nice to have a believable story once in a while.

  10. Slow week over here as well.

  11. OMG! So I just got a email about closet doors last weekend and my mind immediately went to Adonis. Totally legitimate. It was a he most bizarre thing. How did Adonis get my email?
