The Top 10 Songs of 2015 (Podcast)

top songs of 2015

We missed two weeks of the podcast thanks to holiday travels, so this week, we’re giving you a bonus episode before Sunday’s normal dose of Now Conspiring.

And it’s a different episode than normal. We brought in the “Pop Song Professor” Clifford Stumme, who is one of the leading writers on song meanings. He gives us his picks for the best songs of the year and why they’re so relevant.

Of course, we want to hear your favorite songs of 2015 down below in the comments. Let us know what’s tickled your ears and why.

You can see my personal list below, which varies quite a bit from Cliff’s picks. We cover about 20 songs in total during the show, so that should keep you covered until 2017.

(Jon’s list)

  1. “Sedona” — Houndmouth

  2. “Hotline Bling” — Drake

  3. “Depreston” — Courtney Barnett

  4. “Should Have Known Better” — Sufjan Stevens

  5. “Here” — Alessia Cara

  6. “Hello” — Adele

  7. “Sign On” — RAT BOY

  8. “The Less I Know the Better” — Tame Impala

  9. “Could Have Been Me” — The Struts

  10. “Back of the Car” — RAC (feat. Nate Henricks)

  1. Pretty good list. Love Adele. I am deeply hurt that you did not include SEETHER!!!! LOVE me some SEETHER! lol

  2. Both lists are excellent, though I’m surprised Cliff likes Cheerleader more than Hello…

  3. FLETCHER’s War Paint and Atlas Genius’ Stockholm would be in my top 10 on the list of 2015 songs that none of you have ever heard of. I Want You To Know by Zedd and Selena Gomez would also make that list.

    • Never heard of? I’m pretty sure they featured Stockholm on the podcast a while back. I know because that’s how i heard of it in the first place. Also “I Want You To Know” is a decent enough song, but the rest of that album is garbage.
