Now Conspiring: ‘Burnt’ Review; Halloween Costumes That Should Be Discontinued

burnt review

This week on the podcast, we review Burnt, starring Bradley Cooper, and get our feet wet with some movie news. We also unpack some “fun-sized” questions and debate some hallmarks of cinema, such as: is 3D better than 2D?

As always, we read your feedback from last week’s show, deliver our Netflix recommendation of the week, and finish the episode with new movie releases coming to a theater near you.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK: Which Halloween costumes do you think need to stop?

Let us know your thoughts (and your favorite podcast moments) in the comments, which we may read on next week’s show! And be sure to rate the podcast on iTunes and/or Stitcher, where you can also download this episode. Or just Tweet us…@NowConspiring

Our Song of the Week is “Vampire” by Lazyboy Empire. Happy Halloween!

  1. Interstellar Hero Origins Arc 1 is finally completed a week earlier than planned!

Chapter 1 of the rebooted Pixar Detective Spinoff is also released!

Also, I have the spinoff involving Cara and Logan which I will reboot in the near future.

  2. Alright, you Adonis wannabees, let’s talk about halloween. I think some costumes that have worn out their welcome include, but are not limited to: generic businessmen, generic punk rocker, and the couples costume with a plug and socket. But, in more intellectual news, I have a talking point. For minutes, I’ve been wondering, where do you draw the line between clever and lazy? For instance, I saw someone at my school with a piece of paper taped to their back that read, “nudist on strike.” Granted, it took about 8 seconds to make, but I got a good guffaw out of it. Is it clever, lazy, or both? I was John Lennon this year, and that didn’t take too much effort, but people still seemed to like it. I’m just…so confused and I need your help, preferably Adonis due to age similarities. Speaking of Adonis, I think it’s about time I got up the courage to ask this. Adonis, from the first time I heard your voice, I knew I wanted you to be my secret best friend. This is all I can say at this time, so I will loosely quote Futurama in order to leave you conspiracy cockatoos. Farewell to everyone except Adonis. And a special farewell to everyone else…

P.S. I have a question for you conspiracy crustaceans. Who are some of your favorite stand up comedians? My favorite is George Carlin, with Bill Burr, Louis CK, Kevin Hart, and Tom Segura close behind. Now that I think about it, this week on Netflix I recommend Bill Burr: I’m Sorry You Feel That Way. Farewell, and don’t forget to proudly hail at the twilight’s last gleaming.

  3. I have to go with Clueless for best teen queen comedy, Star Wars for best space epic, and 3D being better than 2D when done right. It’s no contest.

  4. All of those stupid couples costumes. NOBODY LIKES THE MICKY-MINNIE COSTUMES!!!

  5. If I see one more Mother of Dragons I will put the Red Wedding to shame. Also, I just watched the short film collection and Kayla is correct about its awesome.

  6. I just want to say that Now Conspiring is my favorite thing about this website, second only to Snarcasm. I’ve been listening for a few weeks now, and this is the first time I’m commenting. I’ve never commented on a podcast before, so kudos to you all for being so much fun to listen to!

I HATE SLUTTY HALLOWEEN COSTUMES. They’re dirty. They’re awful. They promote nothing good about the world. I don’t buy the BS that it’s okay because a woman should express herself however she wants. Who actually believes this? The majority of women, and men, who wear slutty costumes are doing it for attention, plain and simple. They’re saying “look at me, I’m worth something” and it’s SAD. It’s sad because we let it happen for the sake of saying it’s all about expression, when really it’s just insecurity getting exasperated by the one thing we know that sells.

But I do like slutty nurse costumes.

    • This guy’s making a lot of good points…

      • Right? I love slutty nurse costumes.

  7. Maria for el presidente

  8. For me indie movies are more intellectually rewarding while Hollywood movies are more emotionally rewarding. And as for Halloween costumes, are any needed besides Ron Swanson’s pirate costume?
