‘The Martian’ Review; What is Your Favorite Space Movie About Space?

the martian review

This week on the podcast, we review The Martian and chat about our favorite Matt Damon movies. Of course, longtime fans of the show know that I irrationally dislike Damon as an actor, so this was a fun conversation.

As always, we talk about the latest entertainment news and make fun of Adonis while listening to Kayla talk about how cool Pixar’s next film, Coco, looks.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK: What is your favorite space movie about space? Or in space at least…

Let us know your thoughts (and your favorite podcast moments) in the comments, which we may read on next week’s show! And be sure to rate the podcast on iTunes and/or Stitcher, where you can also download this episode. Or just Tweet us…@NowConspiring

  1. My favorite space movie is…..INTERSTELLAR!
Gravity and Star Wars are in 2nd and 3rd in no specific order.

  2. Last week, I announced that my Pixar Detective Spinoff was on a hiatus, but after a week of thinking, I decided to completely reboot the spinoff. It will contain some elements of the original spinoff. Alex, Shelia, and Welles still time travel and looking for the Frozen Fire Cascade (It may not be called that). Some Pixar Detective Characters and concepts will show up, but there will be some massive changes to the story (The biggest is that there will be no zombies). My Pixar Detective Spinoff will still happen, but it will have a different vision.

  3. Contact (Robert Zemeckis, 1997), Space Cowboys (Clint Eastwood, 2000), and Sunshine (Danny Boyle, 2007).

  4. I am so excited for the Martian sequel entitled “The Neptunian.” But, in more factual news, seeing as how Jon eliminated LITERALLY THE TWO SPACE MOVIES I CAN THINK OF, I must resort to obscurity. I’m surprised no one mentioned Gravity, a wonderful movie about a mother, her child, and George Clooney. Also, I know it’s not a movie, but the Futurama episode entitled “Godfellas” is a great space story that I would recommend watching on netflix. Season 3, episode 20, for all you layman. Also, my Damon is Matthew “that’s a lot of fish” Broderick, because I can’t stand Ferris Bueller’s day off, The Lion King, or Godzilla. And finally, my netflix reccomendation this week is Million Dollar Baby. Farewell, and may the forces of evil become confused on the way to your house.

  5. Here’s a question I’ve been pondering:
For the past three years, one major space movie has come out each year. Gravity for 2013, Interstellar for 2014, and The Martian this year. Of these three, which is your favorite and least favorite? I can’t answer since I haven’t seen The Martian yet, but once I do, I’ll put my answer.

  6. Well, I watched Gravity for the first time just last night actually, but I think The Martian will be better. My favorite movie of course, is Star Wars! Although it might be Guardians of the Galaxy if I had seen it.

  7. Moon. More people need to watch it. I think it’s absolutely fantastic. And also Wall-E.

  8. A special thanks to Jon for making me his go-to when he thinks of loyal fans at 2:03 in the podcast.

  9. Am I the only person that HATED Gravity?

  10. What is up with the ‘ads’?

  11. My favorite space movie is Galaxy Quest. Also I just came back from watching Pan and actually cried over how bad this movie was. It disappointed me so much, I can’t even.

  12. What about me I thought I was a loyal fan😢
