Everything happened today.
At a Disney shareholder meeting in San Francisco this morning, Bob Iger revealed a wealth of new information about several big projects, including a Frozen sequel (announced with John Lasseter), the release date and director of Star Wars VIII, and the name and cast of the first Star Wars spinoff, Rogue One.

Honestly, it’s the breaking news about Frozen 2 that has me the most excited. Though it’s not the movie itself that has my attention.
See, it’s very surprising that Frozen 2 is being made. Disney has said many times that a sequel would never happen, which baffled many people who think Disney is missing a huge opportunity to milk this franchise to death.
But they’ve “seen the light,” so to speak, and yes, it’s great news for people who don’t care about Frozen. Why?
Because it sets a new precedent for Disney sequels.
Long ago, in a decade not that far away, Disney was completely averse to ever releasing sequels on the big screen. That’s why the Disney Renaissance sequels (Lion King, Aladdin, etc) are all shoddy for the most part and direct-to-DVD.
Pixar, however, paved the way for how lucrative and critically acclaimed sequels can be if the studio badly wants to make them with Toy Story. Even the Monsters Inc. prequel and Cars sequel, though not culturally impactful on their own, generated a ton of revenue for Pixar.
If Disney is now OK with making Frozen 2, then that’s great news for Big Hero 6 fans like me who really want Big Hero 7 to happen. Now THAT’S a movie that demands a sequel, and I have zero doubt the talented group behind BH6 would love to continue the franchise if they haven’t already.
So rejoice Frozen fans and non-fans alike. Today’s a good day.
I have a ton of ideas for what the sequel should look like. I have an idea of having the city of Arendelle’s reactions to Elsa’s powers with other kingdoms knowing this and wanting that power to themselves, starting a massive storyline of insane proportions, and maybe a side story of Olaf’s adventures with Sven.
PS I imagine this sequel being the 3rd movie to get 2 Billion Dollars (That or Avengers 3), but it will be the first ANIMATED Movie to reach that 2 billion, and not directed by James Cameron. (The first two are Titanic and Avatar, directed by James Cameron)

I hope this means we’ll hear more about the Wreck-It Ralph sequel soon. We better get WIR 2 before more snow clones; it’s only fair.
I’ve heard rumors that the Wreck-It Ralph sequel won’t be a big screen release, but instead a series of shorts. Similar to what they’ve done with Toy Story. Not confirmed though.
I wasn’t sure at first what they possibly could do with a sequel to Frozen. I really enjoyed the Once Upon a Time mythology that they created in Season 4 and the fact that they brought in an evil snow queen. I’m sure they will do a great job and hopefully they take the time to work out a solid storyline 🙂
I haven’t caught myself up to the latest season yet of OUaT, mostly because it’s the kind of show I prefer to binge-watch. From what I’ve heard, though, the Snow Queen story is pretty weird and difficult to follow.
It’s the usual with Kitsis and Horowitz shows, you have to watch every episode. It’s probably something that would be easier seen as a binge-watch because then you can catch all the details.
Right, and you can skip the filler episodes more discriminately.
It should be called Summer, as we have to “find out how much cooler Olaf will be IN SUMMMER”

Your argument about the fact that Disney is making sequels now is valid but hasn’t that already been proven by Disney buying the rights to Star Wars? They literally bought the franchise to make sequels and spin-offs of it.
I’m referring specifically to Disney Animation Studios.
How do you know Frozen 2 Isn’t just the short in Cinderella?
