The Pixar Detective, Chapter 17: “Seven Centuries”

Hey everyone! Welcome to The Pixar Detective, a serial novel I put together based on the Pixar Theory. The following is a fictional story that explains the theory that all of the Pixar movies are connected and exist within the same universe, using original characters and artwork. The story answers a lot of questions you may have about this theory, but through its own ongoing narrative.

The story originally launched in April, and since then we’ve finished Part 1 and Part 2!

Both are available as iBooks on iTunes, which you can check out here. If you can’t use iBooks, can also download the PDF versions:

Part 1: (PDF version)

Part 2: (PDF version)

Once you’re finished, check back to our Table of Contents, where we’ll be continuing the story through Part 3. A new chapter is released every two weeks on Tuesdays. And please be sure to leave your feedback in the comments for us to read through. Enjoy!

chapter 17 pixar detective

Previously on the Pixar Detective!

When we last left Stevin Parker and Cara Parr, they were lost in a dystopian San Francisco covered in skyscrapers of garbage. Alone for three months, everything changed when they encountered a futuristic probe named Atom, who promised to help them if they led him to plant-life.

  1. I suppose Al is the Chicken-Man

  2. I was so not prepared for this chapter….so epic!

  3. Part 1 was called “A Jaunt Through Time,” so why not call Part 2 “Lost in Time?”

  4. Love the look and feel of Atom! I can’t wait to find out what his name means.

  5. Does atom stand for Annihilate The Old World

  6. wait what happened to the 3 who turned on sadie and them

      • where are they going to be in a later chapter

        • Oh yes, for sure. I’m not letting them get away with their treachery (which will also be further explored).

          • i feel like they could be some short of thriple spys or something

  7. how is lightning mcqueen in monster time if he didn’t even live into wall-e time

    • They’re in a prison, so I’m assuming this is where BnL locks people up across time. In the last chapter, Shelby was in 2001, but now he’s here? He must travel through time and collect anomalies. That’s why Willem is suddenly in Wall-e time.

  8. is Al the one from toy story 2

    • it obviously is al from toy story unless jon negroni just made a al up because there arn’t any more in the Als pixar universe. besides the love of toys pionts to it being him as well

  9. how come there is no mention of the cars and why they are on earth by atom

    • The cars aren’t on Earth by Atom. Lightning is being imprisoned by BnL in the far future, apparently.

    • You’ll find out in Chapter 18 what’s going on with the cars and where they are (for the most part!)

  10. are you gonna mention the bug life characters in this at all

        • Part 3 will likely have 10 chapters. That said, they may be longer than the chapters right now, which average about 15 pages.

          • k how but how are you going to include nemo unless sadie has a chapter about going fish mode and say saving nemo from Brucein a awesome shark gang versus superheroe in shark form type monster thing. it just doesnt seem like they could possibly be included. i know you already used the dentist and the mother from ratatui i feel like both movies have more to offer than 2 extremly minor characters in extremly minor appearances

            • Well to be sure, I can’t cover every character from every movie. But I will say that more is coming from some movies that may seem a little under-represented, like Up and Ratatouille. The trick is that if I add characters, they absolutely have to have a purpose within the story that makes it better. Just adding stuff for the sake of adding them, I think, would really hurt the story I’m trying to tell.

              • i totally agree but i also think that Koles idea of a shark fight between bruce and saie would be pure awesome

  11. why did atom just attack them? did he use like some sort of into the future ray? and why are you ending in phase 3 when there so much more that you can write about to make this even better and more interesting

    • Don’t worry, Atom’s actions will be explained in the next chapter (along with a lot of other things).

Sadly, all stories must come to an end. I’ll do my best to make it a good run, though!

      • will part 2 and 3 both end with only 10 chapters or will 3 be longer since it the finale

        • It definitely could be. I have everything for the end planned out, but I may come up with new ideas as we go along (which has happened a few times already and worked out well).

Originally, the story was only going to be two parts, for example. Don’t count on a Part 4 though 🙁

  12. this chapter was very jumpy and confusing to me. in what time is forthright. in what time is willem and wallaby and McQueen and how did they get there? is the attack of atom going on during the same time as the events of wall-E or before it? did atom kill, kidnap, or time zap cara and them. is caras superhero power supposed to be brains? because that was not only be a lame ending to a strong build up but a strange thing since stevin seems smarter and way more clever than her

    • It’ll probably be a lot easier to read this all at once, since it is tricky to remember all of the time periods. But I’ll do my best to explain!

Forthright was in Australia (2001) shortly after Stevin and the gang got scattered through time. He’s now in the world of monsters (which is an unspecified time period right now, unless you know my Pixar Theory).

Willem is in 2805 right now for reasons you’ll find out in Chapter 18. Atom himself tells Stevin and Cara they’re in 2805 in this chapter. He has kidnapped Stevin and Cara, but they’re in the same time period.

Cara’s power is not “brains.” She’s just an exceptional student because she had to compensate for growing up without powers. That doesn’t necessarily make her very clever or a good leader, which I tried to stress in Chapter 11. She’s just book smart. Her true deal is yet to be explained.

Stevin’s not really “smart” in the conventional sense. He takes needless risks and is a bit obsessive. “Clever” is a better way to put it, but he’s only smart when he’s motivated.

      Hope that helps!

  13. is the pixar detective going to be around long enough for finding dory or at least inside out to be somewhat included. also are nemos characters going to be in this at all. also will you mention the supposed animal machine human war. because that could make its own part unless you want to end next part with the finding of mary the you could just make a entire spin off book on it. or maybe council me through it if you dont want to and while yours would be much better i could try after you finish this series

    • No, and that’s a big reason why I want to end it before next summer when Inside Out premieres. This is because a new movie wouldn’t be planned for this story, and it would feel forced. That said, I’ve added subtle hints, like references to the Jurassic and the setting being San Francisco (where Riley from Inside Out lives). But that’s all.

  14. After the Pixar Detective is finished, will you make an updated timeline of the Pixar Theory with the Pixar Detective in it?

    • Nope, they’re separate things. Pixar Detective would get its own timeline. Pixar Theory is more “canon,” while Pixar Detective is just my own imagination at work. Mixing the two would feel like oil and water to me.

  15. how kool would it be if woody, buzz or both were lightnings man in the middle. they could be described as tough and battle hardened since they never wanted to leave another toy behind and now all there friends are missing (Rex since he is probably still alive since he was in wall-E (also if it was him doing a complete character change that would be kool) but i doubt he met back up with any other survivor) or dead crushed by the other wall-Es or just falling apart from mold and old age

  16. MY BRAIN HURTS from over exposure to pure AWESOME!

With that said, I reread the whole Pixar Detective last week and I have a few questions, and a comment.

Way back in chapter 1 or 2 Mary is described as having a strange love for desert and ocean. When I reread that part I thought of the song “A Horse with no Name” by America.

    Now for the questions:
Is the tree that is holding up Mary’s room the same tree that is in A Bug’s Life, or just a tree?

In chapter 7 we are told Sadie is a teenager, but she’s been imprisoned for 4,430 days. 4,430 is a little over 12 years old. Was she taken away when she was 1 or 2, is she an orphan or something? I’m a little confused — or overly technical 🙂 — about that because I thought The Maestro said something about supers being made from birth.

In 6 or 7, what happened to that guy that got stuck back in the middle ages after going through the door in the early 1900’s?

Where is Alec and will he and Molly ever get together?

Sorry about all the questions, but I guess that’s what happens when you reread something.

Kind of sad that a story as good as this has to end, but I’m sure it will be a great ending, when it comes.

My Part 2 name suggestion is: When, Where, and Everywhere.

    Thanks for the great chapter!

    • I will happily answer all of your questions if you answer just one of mine: What does your username mean?

Alright! The tree will be explained in Part 3, which you may have already guessed. All I can say is that you need to pay pretty close attention to the shape and size of the tree…

Sadie was taken when she was a little kid, not an infant. The very first “prototypes” for supers were made from birth, but they were failed experiments. Hence the Maestro was successful when he made Sadie the first “real” super. In this book, she is roughly 16.

The fate of the man who was accidentally sent to the middle ages will be revealed.

Alec is in 1935 working as a rabbit for the magician, Presto. You’ll have to keep reading to find out if he ever makes it back home…

Wow, another great Part 2 name! Making a decision will be pretty challenging…

      • Thanks for answering. That makes a lot more sense about Sadie now. I didn’t notice the first time I read it, but when I reread it (I was bored at work) I put 4,430 days into WolframAlpha to see how many years it is. After I found out I got confused.

As for my username, it’s my real name spelled backwards: Ryan Samons. I thought it was clever until someone told me that he thought it was Japanese. Maybe I’m just more clever than I thought 😉

  17. I think Crisis of 2319 is a cool name

  18. I usually comment earlier, but I had other events, so I am here now

PS. I am working on a “spinoff” of the Pixar Detective and handwritten the first page. I am thinking of continuing the spinoff. It is about a kid named Alex Morstown who meets two strangers and get caught by an officer named Rack. I am still working on the kinks, but I will get that chapter done before this part ends.

      • I got the front and back of one page, as well as a prequel to the spinoff, I will tell you more as time progresses. Stay alert!

      • The first chapter of the “spinoff” will take place during the animal war, and then I want to take it during an election year (maybe 1932 or 1936, but more details to come), but the rest might take place in multiple places through time (and sometimes space) with the early Middle Ages being the earliest, but none of it is confirmed, and I need to think whether or not it is a good idea. The style will be more like Doctor Who, with people going to multiple places through time and space while under a story arc.

  19. This chapter made me speechless.
I am not joking, I have no words on this EPICNESS
So epic and timey-wimey and god knows what else. Can’t wait to see what happens.

    • I had a feeling it would raise some eyebrows. When Kayla read the first draft, she told me she was on the edge of her seat the whole time because of the suspense.

  20. I love all the references in this chapter. Also I’m pretty sure that was the Al from Al’s Toy Barn. Am I right?

  21. Probably completely coincidental (but then again nothing in this story is coincidence!) but Willem Dafoe vocied Gill in Finding Nemo. Is agent Willem Gill!? Great chapter by the way! Keep it up:)

    • Is everyone from Hexagon going to turn into fishes and become the Tank Gang?

    • EVE is married to Wall-E, but I support the idea of ATOM and EVE being in a relationship before it ended horribly.
