First Trailer For ‘Pan,’ The Peter Pan Origin Movie, Gets a lot of Things Wrong (and Right)

Things Pan gets right:

  • The score
  • Joe Wright as director
  • Hugh Jackman as Blackbeard
  • Garrett Hedlund as Hook
  • SyFy’s Neverland being the thrust of inspiration here

Things Pan gets terrible:

  • Rooney Mara as Tiger Lily (seriously, you’re not even trying, Warner Bros.)
  • Blackbeard’s beard goatee
  • How close this feels to Cloud Atlas
  • Hook being “James Hook” before he even loses his hand
  • The apparent omission of Peter Pan as a ruthless jerk and instead being an innocent, doe-eyed orphan

Also, is this Hollywood’s live-action canon for Peter Pan? (Pan, Peter Pan (2003), Hook)

  1. Seriously? No one wants another Peter Pan movie. This is just WB trying to get their Harry Potter-sized pay checks back.

  2. Trailer looks pretty interesting but the tiger lily casting has no justification whatsoever.

  3. As far as hollywood Canon. I sure hope so! Because Hook is gosh darn amazing! (Well, it’s Robin Williams, what do you expect!?)

  4. As far as I am aware, James Hook has always been James Hook, in every Peter Pan story ever, whether it was before or after he lost his hand. Like how Otto Octavius became Dr. Octopus, or Victor Fries became Dr. Freeze. Sometimes people grow into their names in ironic ways. Silly as it is, it is a children’s story, and I would be more upset if they had changed Hook’s name.

  5. That score is fantastic. It made me feel emotions, I don’t like it.

  6. Despite its controversies about Captain Hook’s name and Tigerlily being white, this trailer made me PUMPED (I think the score hooked me the most). I always wanted to know the origins of Peter Pan.
