The Stills (and First Trailer) For The New ‘Peanuts’ Movie Are Glorious

Cartoon Brew | Five New High-Res Stills from Blue Sky’s ‘Peanuts’ Movie:

Blue Sky Studios has released five new high-res stills from The Peanuts Movie via an article in USA Today. And thanks to the wonders of computer animation, they’ve finally added all the glorious details—fully-rendered hair, fur, cloth, lighting, shadows, even reflective eye highlights—that Peanuts creator Charles Schulz was too lazy to draw himself.

Blue Sky is no stranger to gorgeous animated moviemaking (Ice AgeRioEpic, and so on), but this is technically their first attempt at making an adaptation.

And from what I can tell, they’re off to a splendid start with their take on Peanuts, which is set for release next November (2015). For a closer look at the animation, view the film teaser here.

  1. This is seriously looking incredible. As someone who has despised most of Blue Sky’s movies (with the exception of Rio), I will definitely be seeing this.

  2. As a huge Peanuts fan, I’m excited to see the movie and I think visually, it looks amazing so far. I just hope the story will be as good as the visuals – that’s what I’m nervous about.

    • The story is what’s been bugging me since they announced this movie. What could it even be about?

    • This is how I feel. Peanuts was an important part of my childhood. I performed in “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” in high school (playing Linus). I cried when Charles Schulz announced he would no longer be doing the strip, and cried even more when he passed away.

Too many of my childhood favorites have been ruined (Dr. Seuss). I really hope they don’t do that to Peanuts. I hope they keep it simple.

      • The main problem I have with many new adaptations (like the Dr. Seuss ones) is the writers try too hard to modernize the story with pop culture references that reduce the film’s timelessness. Also, they often go overboard with humor and gags to try to appeal to kids, but it ultimately drags the film down. I agree with you, Dan. I hope they realize that simple is best!

  3. I dunno how I feel about a new Charlie Brown movie…can’t they just leave it alone?

  4. I don’t know how I feel about this.
On the one hand, I love the Peanuts strip, and I think it’s awesome that they’re doing this.
On the other hand, they’re trying to do this WITHOUT SHULTZ, and that’s bad. It takes the charm out of an adaption if the creator isn’t there to guide it.
The result? I’ve decided to leave it alone until it comes out, and will be on pins and needles until it does.
I’m going to watch the trailer a bazillion more times because it’s so adorable.
