We’ve all watched that trailer. It gives away the whole movie, including key plot twists. Sometimes you watch a trailer that isn’t even close to what you get in the real movie (we’re looking at you Frozen and Kangaroo Jack).
And sometimes, a movie trailer is just plain bad, even though the movie itself is quite good. Well this week on the Now Conspiring Podcast, Maria and I delve into what makes our trailers, well trailers. Is it money? Greed? Power? Greedy power? We discuss.

I’m glad you didn’t take offense to it. I know it’s a strange opinion, so I’m trying not to just look like a contrarian.
Is it just me or has the average movie trailer gotten longer in the last several years? I believe that’s why they’re not very good these days. Trailers are better when they’re kept short and reveal just enough to make you interested in the movie. Now it seems like the trailers give away the entire plot when the movie is still months away from release. Even if the film turns out differently than the trailer implied, it’s hard to be excited for a movie when it seems like you already know what will happen.

You know, I was going to see Paddington in theaters. But the day before I was going to go see it, THE EXACT SAME TRAILER ABOVE came on the T.V, and it pretty much gave me the whole movie. Well, I figured, it’s a waste of money to go see a movie when you already know how it ends. So I saved my money for a few months, and went to see Inside Out instead. And you know what? I liked Inside Out better in the long run, anyway.
